In May 2026, Seya Tsutsumi was declared champion in recess for being unable to defend the title due to medical situations. Antonio Vargas was reinstated as the regular WBA bantamweight champion.
The fight was a draw and Seiya Tsutsume retained the WBA bantamweight title. Later, WBA officially designated Tsutsumi as “Champion in Recess” following a thorough review of his documented medical condition. As a result, interim titleholder Antonio Vargas has been elevated to full WBA world bantamweight champion.
